Hampstead Village House

Tucked into the fabric of Hampstead Village, this mid-century end-of-terrace house has been carefully reimagined. The original 1960s façade was retained as a familiar presence on the lane, while its material expression was quietly upgraded: plastic cladding replaced with oiled Siberian larch, and new windows introduced to improve thermal efficiencies in the elevation.

Behind this preserved frontage, the house was entirely rebuilt and extended to create a contemporary three-bedroom home defined by light, openness and a strong sense of vertical connection. Living spaces are arranged on the upper level opening out onto a secluded roof terrace. Here, minimally framed sliding glass doors merge the boundary between inside and out, allowing the space to expand in warmer months.

Natural light is treated as a primary material throughout the house. A bespoke timber staircase draws daylight down into the ground floor from a large format rooflight above. This vertical wash of light animates the interior, shifting subtly over the course of the day and reinforcing a sense of calm and generosity into this compact house.
