Passmore Street

Passmore Street is a quiet ground floor rear extension to a two-storey mid-terrace cottage in Belgravia, previously refurbished as part of a wider estate-led renewal.

The design is guided by a functional brief to increase the liveable area of the property while improving daylighting and strengthening the connection to the small rear garden. The ground floor is reshaped to accommodate a generous open-plan kitchen and living space, alongside a compact, carefully considered shower room.

Material reuse underpins the architectural language. Bricks were salvaged from the demolished outrigger and reassembled to form the new rear elevation. The exposed concrete lintel over minimal sliding doors and the galvanised steel rainwater pipe introduce an understated industrial character that sits comfortably alongside the warmth and texture of the repurposed brickwork.

Rooflights draw soft daylight deep into the plan, animating the interior throughout the day. Above, a planted flat roof is experienced from the first floor as a quiet extension of the garden below, softening the addition and offering valuable amenity in this densely urban environment.
