Cornwall Gardens
Occupying the piano nobile of a grand Kensington terrace, this Grade II listed apartment has been carefully restored and reconfigured to reveal the character of its original interiors.
Successive alterations had obscured much of the building’s historic fabric. Elaborate ceiling roses and decorative cornices were concealed behind suspended ceilings, while an Edwardian glasshouse attached to the rear had deteriorated and was in need of extensive repair. The refurbishment began by stripping back these later additions, exposing and restoring surviving mouldings and reinstating missing details to re-establish the proportions and richness of the principal rooms.
To the rear, the glasshouse was repaired and renewed as part of a generous open-plan sequence connecting the kitchen, living space and greenhouse. These spaces now flow seamlessly into one another, bringing light and greenery deep into the apartment while creating a more relaxed and contemporary way of living.
A palette of muted, dark tones introduces a sense of tranquillity throughout, providing a restrained backdrop to the apartment’s highly decorative historic features.
