Pilgrims Lane

This 1930s house was renovated through a series of carefully judged interventions designed to achieve maximum impact with minimal alteration to the existing fabric.

At the rear, original window openings were reshaped and fitted with slender, white-painted metal windows and doors, giving the elevation a lighter and more precise character. A compact ground-floor extension created space for a breakfast table, while opening the kitchen into the adjoining dining and living areas established a more generous, social and fluid interior.

Throughout, a confident use of colour complements the clients’ collection of mid-century furniture, bringing warmth and personality to the restrained architectural framework.

Outside, the existing brick-plinth terrace was reshaped and extended to create a more practical and proportionate outdoor space. New steps provide an easier connection to the garden, while the terrace and refurbished rear façade are conceived as a single composition, strengthening the relationship between the house and its landscape.
